St. Paul, MN - The Northland College Lumberjacks nearly left Concordia-St. Paul with an impressive victory over a D-II opponent, but the Golden Bears were able to use a strong defensive effort and get past the Jacks late in the second half.
Benny Larry Jr. led the way for Northland with 15 points while
Carter Cook also reached double figures with 12 points in the loss.
The Jacks jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the opening minutes. The Bears quickly evened it back up with five points the other way, but the Jacks were right back in front with a 7-0 run to make it 15-8 with 13:10 left in the first half. That lead eventually grew to double figures at 23-13 three minutes later before Concordia once again chipped away to within a possession at 23-20 and again at 25-22.
The Jacks were right back on the offensive down the stretch in the first half as a 15-2 run, capped by 12 straight over an efficient two and a half minute surge, made it 40-24 with just over three minutes left in the half. Concordia stemmed the tide a bit as they trimmed it to 13 at 45-32 heading into the break. The Jacks pushed the lead back to 15 early in the second half, but the Bears defense took control over the final ten minutes of the game, allowing the Bears to escape with a 75-61 win.
The Jacks are in action next on December 4th when they host the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
