Northland College alumnus Robert Byers has earned a spot in the Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding lifelong accomplishments in athletics. Byers graduated from Northland in 1962 with a BA in education. Byers also possesses an MA in guidance/ counseling from UW-Superior and an MA in school administration from Northeast Missouri State University, today named Truman University. Byers has devoted much of his life to education and athletics.
An avid athlete, Byers was a member of the Northland College football, hockey, and track teams, as well as participating in ski club. In addition to sports, Byers was also involved in many extra curricular activities including Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity, resident assistant, Christian organization member, Letter Club, and class officer. Byers athleticism was apparent in all sports he played. He lettered three years in each of the sports he played; football, hockey, and track. He received an All Wisconsin College Football Team Player honorable mention in 1961. In track, Byers set Northland College records in low and high hurdles and 440-yard dash. He also set the Gopher-Badger Conference record in low hurdles.
