Mike Goymerac came to Northland College from Holy Name High School in Escanaba, Michigan. At an early age of fifteen he played senior hockey with the Escanaba Hawk's in the Northern Michigan Ontario Hockey League.
Mike attended Northland from 1956-1960. He was the first goalie in the College's history to letter each of the four years he played. He was named Most Valuable Player in 1956, 1957, 1958, and 1959, held the position of Assistant Captain 1956, 1957, and 1958, and served as Team Captain in 1959 during his senior year.
Upon completion of Mike's Northland College education, Mike was invited to the Detroit Red Wings training camp as a non-roster player eventually leading to the assignment of Milwaukee in the International Hockey League. Mike gave up his opportunity to play professional hockey, enrolled in graduate school, and worked in public education for thirty-six years,retiring from Green Bay West High School as a Guidance Counselor in 1999.
In his spare time, Mike contributed to hockey through involvement with coaching, officiating, organizing, and administering numerous programs from all levels of competition. As a linesman in the United States Hockey League, he has officiated exhibition games with the United States Olympic Team, Czech Republic, International Hockey League, All-Star games and playoffs. Mike's volunteer efforts and expertise were instrumental in assisting alumnus Jack Mattieson's efforts to help reinstate Ice Hockey as a varsity sport at Northland College effective in 1997.
