Northland College is proud to recognize Lori Strauss for her outstanding achievement on the Northland Women's Basketball team. As a team member from 1985 to 1989, Lori scored 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds and earned several honors, including Most Improved Player (1986 and 1988), NAIA All-District 14 Team (1988), and NLCAA Academic All American(1988).
After graduating from Northland, Lori earned a Master's Degree in Sociology, writing her thesis on "Determinants of Success in a Precollegiate Program for Disadvantaged Students." Her education became the basis for a career in public service. Lori has managed an Upward Bound program and a national AmeriCorps program that serves farm workers. She has also volunteered as teacher at the Maya Angelou Charter School, and served as a member and officer on a number of association and non-profit boards. Currently she is an AmeriCorps program officer at the Corporation for National and Community Service where she manages over $12 million in AmeriCorps grants. She now combines her interests in athletics with her passion for public service - last year she raised $4,000 for breast cancer awareness by completing the 60-mile Avon 3-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.
Lori lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband Nathan Janusz and their son Benjamin.
