Hoyer, an Ashland native, was active in football and basketball during his years at Northland College. After a football injury, he became assistant football and freshman football coach. He also served as assistant basketball coach during the 1939-40 season. Ken was involved in the Student Senate, serving as president in his senior year. His other interests included participation in Beta Chi and the Athletic Board. Hoyer received a B.A. in 1940 from Northland College with a major in biology and a minor in English. He earned a Masters Degree in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1955. Ken held teaching positions at a number of schools including Rapid River, Michigan, Prentice, Odossagon, and Cumberland, Wisconsin. He was superintendent of schools in Whitehall, Wisconsin, retiring in 1977. Hoyer was on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators for nice years and
president during 1966-67. He was on the WIAA Advisory Council and served as chairman in 1966. Ken was treasurer of the Northern Wisconsin Superior Education Association and also active in Lions Club and Kiwanis Club. Ken Hoyer's career brings his credit to his alma mater.
