Keith French came to Northland College in 968 after teaching and coach at three Wisconsin High Schools - Goodman, Weyauwega, and Janesville-Craig. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and general science from UW-LaCrosse in 1957. He earned a master's degree from Northern Michigan University in 1965 and a Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1981. Keith taught Physical Education and was Head Football Coach during his years at Northland. Always a person interested in "doing more", Keith served in many capacities during his years at Northland. He coached track, served as head basketball coach and assistant basketball coach, and as Athletic Director. Keith continued his teaching and coaching career at UW-LaCrosse. From 1983-1988 he chaired the Physical Education Department. At the time of his death in December, 1989 he was the Interim Associate Dean of the College of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. He was also the president-elect of the Wisconsin Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Keith will be remembered as a caring individual who emphasized the importance of his student's academic career over their athletic participation.
