Kim Falkenhagen

Leading the LumberJills in their 6th season, Kim Falkenhagen was named the Head Volleyball Coach in February 2013 and brings with her over 22 years of collegiate coaching and playing experience.
Since joining Northland she has coached 5 UMAC All-Conference Players and 19 UMAC Academic All Conference Players. 

Prior to Northland, Falkenhagen was the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Northern Michigan University.  During her time at NMU, she coached on the team that went to the NCAA tournament in 2010, worked with 1 All-American, 1 Region Freshmen of the Year, and 7 All Conference Players.
Falkenhagen was also the Head Volleyball Coach at Eastern New Mexico University from 2007-2009.  Here she trained 9 academic all-conference and one academic all-district selections and was awarded 2 AVCA Game Plan Academic Awards.  Her team at ENMU was also awarded 2 All-Conference selections while training one of the NCAA Div. II top Libero, Caitlin Murphy.

Her first collegiate head coaching experience came at Bemidji State where Falkenhagen led the Beavers for four seasons.  During her first season at the helm, she led the Beavers to 15 wins, the second most wins for any first-year coach in the program’s history.  During her tenure she coached 21 players who earned academic all-conference honors, two made academic all-district and one earned academic all-American status.  Eight of her players were named all-conference and her team’s played in the conference tournament every year.

Falkenhagen began her collegiate coaching career at West Texas A&M from 2000-2002, where she served as the graduate assistant for two seasons before being promoted to the top assistant her final year.  During her tenure at WTAMU, the Lady Buffs were ranked first in the country in NCAA Div. II and reached the national tournament all 3 years.  During her stint at West Texas, the team went 100-8.

Falkenhagen played volleyball for Northern Michigan University, which won the national title in 1994 and were runner-up in 1995. For the 1995 tournament she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team after posting a hitting percentage of .867, which still stands as a NCAA tournament record.   Falkenhagen was also named to the NCAA All- tournament team, the GLIAC all-region teams, the AVCA all-region team, and the GLIAC all-conference teams during her career.   She began her collegiate playing career at Weber State University (1992-93). Along with her 1995 teammates, Falkenhagen was inducted into the Northern Michigan University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.

Falkenhagen is also in her 4th year as Director of Athletics and is an American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll Voter. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in political science from NMU in 1997 and a Master of Arts degree in interdisciplinary studies from West Texas A&M in 2000.
